They most commonly come in the form of liquid, foam, or gel. In most cases, disinfectant liquids contain alcohol - in which case they are more effective in fighting germs and work better than antibacterial soap. In order for their use to have a certain result, they should contain 60-80 percent alcohol. A hand disinfectant without alcohol is not able to cope with microorganisms as well as one with alcohol.

When is it worth using hand disinfectants?

Contrary to what some may think, hand disinfectants are not reserved for use only by medical personnel, although they are most commonly used in hospitals, medical facilities, and private offices. Frequent hand disinfection is recommended for everyone after contact with another person, for example after shaking hands, as well as after touching surfaces in public places such as doorknobs, handrails, or elevator buttons.

Importantly, hand sanitizers do not work the same way as washing hands with soap and water and cannot completely replace this action. After using the product, even though your hands will be free of microorganisms, you may still feel that they are contaminated. Regardless, a no-rinse hand sanitizer fulfills its purpose and it is worth having it with you to use when hand washing is not possible.

When choosing, pay attention to the composition of the product. It is crucial for the effectiveness of disinfection. The most effective are alcohol-based sanitizers. However, we should also not overlook the concentration of alcohol, which should not be lower than 60%. In addition, it is worth considering factors such as consistency and scent.
